Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Birdbath Water Controller ("the App") is the companion app for the Kilowatt Labs ESP32-based water controller. It lets you open and close taps, set watering schedules and check the battery level over Bluetooth Low Energy.

This policy explains what information the App handles. The App is published on Google Play by Kilowatt Labs under the package name tech.kilowatts.watercontroller.

2. Information Stored on Your Device

The App stores only what you enter, in its private storage on your device:

• Watering schedules and settings, which are also saved on your controller
• The Bluetooth identifier of the controller you paired with, so the App can reconnect

Kilowatt Labs does not operate servers that receive this data, and we never see it.

3. Permissions

The App asks only for the permissions it needs:

• Nearby devices (Bluetooth scan and connect): Used to find and connect to your water controller. The App does not use Bluetooth to work out your location.
• Location (Android 11 and older only): Older Android versions require location permission to scan for Bluetooth devices. The App does not read or store your location.
• Internet: Used only to load advertisements. Controlling your taps over Bluetooth works offline.

You can change permissions at any time in your device's settings.

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

The only third party that receives data is Google, through the AdMob advertising SDK described in the next section. We do not sell your data or share it with anyone else.

5. Advertising

The App shows advertisements provided by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, and to prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process:

• Your device's advertising ID
• Your IP address, from which an approximate (city-level) location may be inferred
• Device and app information such as device model, operating system version and app version
• Ad interaction data such as ad views and taps

This information is collected and handled by Google, not by Kilowatt Labs. We never receive your personal information from AdMob. See How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

Ads are chosen by Google. The App does not share anything you enter with Google or any advertiser.

You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads at any time in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads or Settings → Privacy → Ads). Where required by law (for example in the EEA and UK) you will be asked for consent before personalised ads are shown.

6. Data Security, Retention and Deletion

• Your data is protected by your device's own security. We recommend using a screen lock.
• You can edit or delete entries within the App at any time.
• Uninstalling the App, or clearing its storage in Android settings, permanently deletes all of its data.
• Because we hold none of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on request. We will still gladly answer any privacy question.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

8. Changes to This Policy

If the App's data handling changes, we will update this page and its "Last updated" date before the change is released.
